Nowadays the departments of the college are:1- Engineering Metallurgy;2- Engineering of Non – Metallic Materials with two branches:a. Engineering of Polymer and composite materialsb. Engineering of Ceramic and Building materials. The establishment of the College of Material s Engineering, as a leading and a specialist College, appeared for the need of specialization and necessity of material s engineering used in all our modern life and new technology. The college aims at graduating specialized engineers in different fields of material s engineering (metallurgy, polymers, composites, ceramic, building materials, biomaterial, nanotechnology and recycling of materials) and enabling them dealing with all respect to the materials starting from extracting through selecting, designing and manufacturing up to innovating.Development of traditional and non- traditional industry cannot be achieved without innovation of new materials and without specialization of work that fits the need of such sectors, so the College of Material s Engineering aimed at creating a generation of geometric means of engineering materials of traditional cultures and non-traditional and simulate the edges of science in the world. The College is working to develop advanced engineering departments related to nanotechnology, smart materials, advanced composite materials, and manufacturing processes. In 2007-2008 the College of Material s Engineering accepted 140 students only, while in the academic year 2012-2013 the students amount 600 at the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) level and 31 students at the Master of Science (M.Sc.) level which covers three specializations (engineering metallurgy, ceramic engineering, and polymer engineering). The college has many activities in relation with the society via its consulting office and the high ability of its laboratories specially in the field of inspections of engineering materials. Our laboratories include so many advanced devices like XRD, SEM, chemical composition analyzer, atomic probe microscope, universal testing machine, pipe testing machine, ultrasonic inspection ……. etc. All departments in the college works quite hard with a wide and comprehensive campaign towards achieving Quality Assurance in accordance with international standards, and this represents a strategic and important decision for the scientific and educational process of the college.
